IH053 - DO WE KNOW WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW?

Our capacity to realize whatever it is we want is, in part, predicated on us having the knowledge to realize it. The question then becomes - do we know what we need to know? We exist, and in our existence, there is ‘us’ and ‘all that surrounds us.’ These surroundings include our families, other people, friends, weather, television, news, fake news, crime, technology, fads, social media, global politics, the stock market, sports, and opinions - some of which turn into decisions that turn into laws that directly and indirectly impact us. We are surrounded by knowledge and swimming in the potential to know more about the past, present, and future. Yet, most of us don’t actually know what we need to know.

In today’s episode, I discuss what you need to know, from the leanings of the Supreme Court Justice members to what is and is not taught in our schools, how our healthcare system works, and how to get ahead in the workplace. I share how self-help often ends up being primarily about gaining knowledge without subsequent action and how knowledge is still power, but the purpose and intention of that power is fundamentally what is important. I also reveal how you can separate what you want to know and what you need to know and highlight how study is the key to achieving what we want for ourselves and our community.

“Each of us has a choice to know the same or know more. To seek to know what we need to know in order to realize whatever it is we want.” - Chris Colbert

This week on Insert:Human

  • How 90% of Americans cannot name one Supreme Court Justice

  • How many cannot name one of the protections in the constitution, what our schools are teaching, or how our healthcare system works

  • How to separate what we need to know from what we might like to know by setting our intentions

  • Connecting the dots between the outcomes we are after, for ourselves or our society, and the knowledge we need to realize them

  • How a lack of intentions let us off the hook for what we need to know and results in us not getting anywhere
